Today I am going back to my ‘Sandy from Grease’ roots and pulling the old American Apparel disco pants out of the closet, along with my floral bomber jacket. If you don’t own a pair of disco pants, I highly suggest you invest in them (that is, if you like that sort of look, as they are not for everyone). I do recommend going into the store and trying them on. I find that American Apparel sizing is not consistent with each piece, and these pants are very form fitting so you would need to see what works best for you. As for the jacket, this is definitely a capsule piece for me because it has three redeeming qualities-unique beauty, the butterfly effect, and rarity. I first saw this jacket on Jennifer Lopez in one of her music videos. When I saw it I had to have it. I went on the hunt and finally found it on Ebay (rarity). To me it is a beautiful piece. Everytime I look at it I fall in love again (the butterfly effect). As the years go by I find that capsule pieces have quite a strong staying power in my closet, and I try to snatch them up whenever I can. What about you? Do you have any pieces you will never part with?

If you are following fashion right now, you know how big the button up skirt is. Overall I do like this trend, but I find it can have the same problem as the boyfriend jean-if not done right, it can leave you looking frumpy and not so flattered. For this reason, I didn’t go out and buy the first button up skirt in my size. I had to exercise patience until the right one spoke to me. (Deep, right?) Eric and I were recently in Wilmington, NC for a family trip. We were coming off a great beach day when I walked past this little boutique on the corner. It intrigued me, so I went in. That’s where I found this skirt-Shop Hallelu Boutique. After doing more research I found they actually have an online store, so you don’t have to be in NC to reap the benefits of this retailer. I really dig the merchandise, and I find it to be reasonably priced. I love when I find little gems like this, don’t you? (Disclaimer-this post was not sponsored. I just found something I liked at a new place I wanted to share it with others so they can go and hopefully have the same experience as me.) Back to the outfit…what I have found so far is the button up skirt pairs well with a crop top. I am loving this eyelash lace one from Forever 21. Last time I checked, they were still available online. Mine is a size medium. And for my feet, I slid on these awesomely flattering and comfortable nude mules. Finish it off with a long gold necklace, and you’re ready for night out with the girls, or a date with your man. I hope this post inspires you to put your own spin on this little trend.
Not that it ever went out of style for me, but apparently the fashion gods are forecasting major fringe showers in the sartorial world for the fall 2015 season. Like a good blogger does, I was researching this trend on the web and found no shortage of items to rock for the upcoming season. The good news is that there is a TON of reasonably priced product out there right now, so it shouldn’t be a problem to get in on this trend-AND you don’t have to feel guilty spending all your hard earned money on something you may not wear next season-it’s a minimal investment. I’m talking bags, jackets, skirts, and of course, my favorite, booties (I love a good boot). I have rounded up a few of my favorite finds while scoping out the fringe scene, and almost all of my finds are $100 or less (with the exception of the Cleobella fringe jacket, but I have it in brown from almost two years ago and have not regretted the purchase, just an FYI). Enjoy the picks, and I’ll see you in the next post.
For this outfit I did a little layering by tying a lightweight chambray button up over a casual maxi dress. I have this dress in two colors. It is made by Alternative Apparel. I love that brand because they use such soft high quality material. Anything you purchase from them will last forever in your wardrobe, I promise. I got this belt at a thrift store a few years ago and planned to use it for my DIY boot project (which is featured in another post). It didn’t make the boot cut, but I’m glad I held onto it as it came in handy to tie this look together. I got the hat on clearance at J. Crew. I absolutely love their hats. The fit is perfect!
Well, summer is almost over, and I am scrambling to wear my lighter pieces while I can-especially my favorites. I love these tie dye shorts from Planet Blue (from last year but I found a very similar pair HERE). They match very well with my lace up gladiator sandals. I got these from Choies. They are pretty much a dupe of the ones Schutz is making, but a fraction of the price. I am always on the fence with Choies, but honestly, these sandals are highly recommended-so much that I got them in black too! They are padded in the sole, which makes them SO comfortable to walk in all day. How often do you find flats that are cute AND comfortable? I am always on a mission to find functional but stylish flat shoes, and I can safely say these make the cut. Regarding fit, size up! I had to return my original order and wait almost a month for the bigger ones to arrive. Moving forward, if I order shoes from Choies, I will go one size bigger than my US size. My top is from Lush via Nordstrom. I have these in quite a few colors, and they have been worth the investment as they have proven to be a staple in my closet. I find myself grabbing these tops when I have a bottom that I am struggling to match a top to. They are definitely a staple for me, as I can see myself transitioning them into fall by layering them under my light jackets. If you haven’t already, check out the Lush tops at Nordstrom. I am not paid or sponsored to say this, I just really like these tops and I want to share them with you, because I have been looking for a long time for good quality basic blouses and I believe I have finally found them.
Today I am wearing a black and white stripe dress from Shop the Mint, an online boutique worth checking out. When I went onto their site I could not believe how much inventory they have to browse-I’m talking pages and pages for each clothing category. They have a ton of different styles to choose from, so there is something for everyone. Shop the Mint updates their online boutique with new inventory daily, and the prices are more than reasonable. I was pleased to receive my dress in the mail. When I opened it I found the material to be good quality, not cheap at all. I thought this was a perfect opportunity to pair the dress with my Topshop red Ghillie lace up ballet flats. If you’re stuck on shoe sizing with Topshop, defintiely size up. I made the mistake of sizing down (because they only offer whole shoe sizes) and they were way too small! Luckily I was able to score the right size in the end-I will be rocking these babies in the fall! I hope you enjoyed this post. Today is a simple and elegant look centered around a black sheer blouse. It is a little longer, so I wanted to wear it as a dress. Since it was really meant to be a shirt I put black shorts underneath it to pull it off as a dress. The pumps are from Zara (last year). The cutout design of the shoe made it a perfect fit with the look because the top was so simple that the two complemented each other very well. I was sent this necklace from Happiness Boutique and I really do love it. I can be picky when it comes to statement necklaces, but I like the fact that this one is a classic design that will pair well with so many things. I will definitely be wearing this a lot more! You can check out their online shop (they have clothing too!) by visiting www.happinessboutique.com
Happy Friday! I am bringing you another outfit featuring my black gladiator sandals. This time I started with a plain white tee shirt dress and built around it using black details. I found this awesome black tassel necklace from Forever 21 (link HERE) and I have to say I am glad I got it. I am also happy I finally invested in a basic tee shirt dress. I find it to be extremely versatile, especially when trying to come up with cute summer outfits. To tie the look together and keep it current I added a black fringe bag. They are a great alternative to the basic black bag and you can find them for a fairly inexpensive price in most retailers. I hope you enjoy the post. Be sure to stay tuned for next week’s outfit installments!
