I recently had the opportunity to check out Greene Street Consignment. I have driven past the one in Philly several times and have made a mental note to stop in and see what it was all about. I finally got to experience this store and I am so glad I did. Their merchandise consists of preloved apparel for men, women and children. They are very selective in their resell process to ensure they are providing a top quality shopping experience for all of their customers. As I was browsing the racks I saw pieces from Diane von Furstenburg, Tory Burch, and even Isabel Marant (one of my favorite high end designers). If you’re not into luxury apparel fear not, because I also stumbled upon brands like H&M, Banana Republic, and Zara.
Despite the fantastic inventory at a fraction of the retail price, one of the greatest things I learned from the experience was the cause behind their business. Greene Street Consignment developed their brand with the intention of lessening the need for creating new clothing, which surprisingly puts a huge dent in the environment. (Something I didn’t know until now). The amount of cheap labor from third world countries, water and other natural resources needed to create just one new garment are astounding. (If you have time, I suggest reading up on it) Greene Street appreciates one’s love for clothing, but they are equally passionate about staying green. (and now you know where their name came from!)
Greene Street Consignment has ten locations throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania, so if you are local be sure to check them out.
