Hope you all are having a great week so far!
Today is a special post because I am going to share more from my personal life, which I don’t do often on here. I thought after almost two years of having this blog I would talk a little about what I do for a living. After all, blogging is definitely NOT my full time thing, and the bills have to get paid!
So, I am a registered nurse, and have been since 2012 when I went back to school to pursue a new career path. For the last 3 years or so I have been working as an on call nurse, where I serve the home care and hospice population.
Basically, I am available to my patients every other week on nights and weekends. I field calls from famies and patients and make any visits to their homes as necessary. My patients can be on hospice or home care. If the patient is on home care, most of the time they have just been discharged from a hospital and we are monitoring their transition back to home.
Since I work with patients in their home, I don’t report to a facility for a set amount of shifted hours. I turn my phone on at the designated time and wait for the calls. Because of this set up my work is based out of my home and I am traveling throughout the community on a regular basis.
Now, more importantly, what do I wear???
Well, since I am still performing nursing duties, I do typically wear scrubs when traveling to my patients’ houses. I don’t just wear any scrubs, though. You can believe the fashion blogger in me still cares about what I look like and how I feel when I am on the clock.
I have tried many scrubs in the past, and hands down Landau Scrubs are my favorite. Why? They have so many qualities I look for in a scrub that make them my go to every time. Above all else they are beyond comfortable! They make it so easy to wear them all day. (I know for a fact that Landau tests their fabric for durability before it reaches the consumer) There are some weekends when I am literally working around the clock and won’t be home for over 12 hours. I need to wear something that I will feel good in and that will move with me as the day goes on. They are perfect for my job because in-between visits I often run errands (since I’m out in the community), and I don’t have to worry about being uncomfortable or changing in between visits.
The other thing I love about them is the cut. I have always preferred a ‘trendier’ style scrub with more of a flared leg and a fitted top. The All Day Elastic Cargo Scrubs (which I am wearing) definitely give that to me. They also come in a ton of colors. (and prints if you like something fun!) I usually wear colors that complement my blonde hair, which is why you see me in the wine color in the above photos.
I also like the fact that I can get them from Amazon, my favorite shopping site. If you’re not an online shopper like me you can also get them in traditional scrub stores, or you can go straight to landau.com. You cal also check out the exact pants I’m wearing HERE.
So, I hope you enjoyed this little snapshot into my personal and professional life. I do feel fulfilled as a nurse and am glad I chose it as a profession. It’s funny, because I always thought growing up I was going to be a teacher because I wanted to dress up for a living! In the end I did a complete 180 and picked a job where I get to wear comfy scrubs, and I’m not complaining!
